My Version of the Wild Wild West

24 Mar

This past weekend I traveled to the Golan Heights with my friend Talia. We were both itching to get away for the weekend and I have been dying to go up North. The Golan is filled with luscious mountains, deep valleys, bubbling rivers and brooks and March is the perfect time to go up North. We stayed in a little cabin on Kibbutz Beit Hillel five minutes east of Kiryat Shmona. We ate at Dag al HaDan (which literally means Fish on the Dan River), went horseback riding and hiked some of the Banias River

Now many of you might not have known this but I have always wanted to conquer my version of the “wild wild west” here in Israel. I feel very strongly about creating a new community, a new city on a random hilltop or mountain.

And now I know where I am going to make that dream come true. The Golan Heights. This part of the world has always felt like home and thats funny coming from someone who needs to live in a bustling environment. I mean- the Golan Heights is not exactly Tel Aviv (Israel’s version of New York City).

But it feels right there. I dont know exactly when I will fulfill this dream of conquering the Golan Heights but at least for now I am happy with the realization that my dream of becoming a “settler” is still a live dream.
